India’s Robust Growth Stands Out Amid Global Uncertainty, RBI Affirms

Date:

The Indian economy is forging ahead strongly amidst global economic uncertainty and challenges. In its latest report, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) stated that India remains one of the world’s fastest-growing major economies. The RBI’s July monthly bulletin noted that economic activity maintained a rapid pace through June. Indicators for the industrial and services sectors remain robust, while strong domestic demand has successfully withstood external pressures.

Key highlights of the report:

– Strong growth was recorded in foreign trade; both exports and imports saw significant increases during the April-June 2026 period.
– Trade is expected to receive a further boost from the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) and other bilateral agreements.
– A recovery was observed in foreign investment; gross and net FDI figures for April-May surpassed those of the previous year. Foreign Portfolio Investment (FPI) also turned positive in June.
– Inflation control: Retail inflation saw a marginal rise in June, yet core inflation remained low. With adequate food grain stocks, the impact on food inflation is likely to remain limited.
– Liquidity conditions improved, supporting credit growth.

The RBI noted that while the global economy continues to grapple with challenges such as supply chain disruptions, geopolitical tensions, and fragmented trade relations, India’s robust domestic economy is proving resilient in the face of these headwinds. The bulletin also highlighted that India’s key external sector risk indicators remained in a strong and balanced position as of the end of March 2026.
