Tamil Nadu: The self-enumeration (SE) facility for Houselisting and Housing Census (HLO) under Phase I of Census 2027 has gone live in Tamil Nadu and Tripura, marking the start of census operations in both states. This facility will be available until July 31, 2026. Households completing the online process through the official Self-Enumeration portal (se.census.gov.in) are required to retain their generated Self-Enumeration ID (SE ID) and present it to Enumerators during door-to-door verification, which will be conducted from August 1 to 30.
Meanwhile, field operations for the houselisting and housing census will continue until July 30 in Kerala and Nagaland, with enumerators visiting households that did not opt for self-enumeration.
The government stated that the first phase of the 2027 census has already been completed across 29 states and Union Territories. Digital tools are being used for the census for the first time; enumerators are collecting data via a dedicated mobile app alongside conducting traditional door-to-door surveys.
During the HLO phase, officials collect information regarding housing conditions, family composition, amenities, and assets using a 33-point questionnaire. The government reiterated that all information collected under the Census Act, 1948, will remain confidential and be used solely for statistical and development planning purposes.
