Rajinikanth responds to trolls following the controversy over his comments regarding CM Vijay.
‘Thalaiva’ Rajinikanth spoke candidly about his apprehension regarding speaking on public platforms and the issue of social media trolling. Alluding to the intense trolling he faced after commenting on Thalapathy Vijay’s victory, Rajinikanth remarked that in today’s climate, whether he speaks or remains silent, people find reasons to criticize him in either scenario.
Superstar Rajinikanth’s new film, Dharman, was announced on Wednesday. He is already working on Jailer 2 and a project with his iconic contemporary from Tamil cinema, Kamal Haasan. Amidst this, the announcement of his new film comes as a major treat for his fans across the country.
Kamal Haasan, the producer of Dharman, and director Ashwath Marimuthu were present alongside Rajinikanth at the film’s title announcement event. Speaking to the media, Rajinikanth admitted that he now hesitates to say anything in public because he faces criticism whether he speaks or stays silent. This statement is believed to be a response to the trolling he endured after commenting on Thalapathy Vijay.
Rajinikanth was trolled for his remarks on Vijay.
Rajinikanth’s latest statement follows a press conference held in May, where he reacted to ongoing discussions regarding Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and superstar Vijay. He had faced significant criticism following that statement.
Opening his remarks, Rajinikanth noted that these days, any statement he makes on a public platform sparks a controversy. He said in Tamil, “As soon as I am invited to speak, I hesitate. Because whatever I say ends up becoming a problem—either for you or for me.”
Rajinikanth added that he finds no peace even when he remains silent. He said, “If I remain silent, people mock me and ask, ‘Why isn’t he speaking? Has he stuffed a Kozhukattai [a sweet dumpling] in his mouth?'” Rajinikanth remarked that no matter what he does, people always find a reason to criticize him.
Rajinikanth added, “If I do speak, some will ask, ‘What was the need to speak right now?’ while others will say, ‘He shouldn’t have spoken at all.'”
“Some people simply never like you”
Rajinikanth continued, “Over the years, I have realized one thing: those who do not like you will not like you, no matter what you do. And it is foolish to think that those who like you will appreciate everything you say or do. That is why one has to be very careful.”
What did Rajinikanth say about Vijay?
Following Vijay’s victory in the Tamil Nadu elections, speculation arose on social media suggesting that Rajinikanth was unhappy with the result. To quell these rumors, Rajinikanth held a press conference at his home in Chennai.
He stated that he had met former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin after the election because the two are friends. He also addressed reports claiming he had not congratulated Vijay on his victory or was displeased with his success. However, rather than putting the controversy to rest, Rajinikanth’s statement sparked further debate, and Vijay’s fans began trolling him on social media.
Later, at an event, Rajinikanth mentioned that he had watched Vijay grow up since childhood and shared a close friendship with his father. Given this, he remarked that it was absurd to even imagine he harbored any sense of “competition” regarding Vijay.
