India clinched the women’s cricket gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games with commanding 147-run victory over Sri Lanka in the final played on Tuesday at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin. This victory also marked India’s first gold medal of the Games.
Batting first, India posted a score of 216/3, their highest-ever total in women’s cricket at the Asian Games. Smriti Mandhana led the scoring with 79 runs off 45 balls, while Shafali Verma scored 48 off 29 balls, and Richa Ghosh remained unbeaten on 49 off 22 balls.
Sri Lanka struggled in their run chase and were bowled out for just 69 runs. Deepti Sharma delivered an outstanding performance with figures of 3/6, while Shafali Verma, Shreyanka Patil, and Sri Charani claimed two wickets each to secure a massive victory for the team.
With this result, India successfully defended the women’s cricket title won at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games, while Sri Lanka once again finished as runners-up.
